The Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail is part of a commitment to preserve the historical craft of traditional quilting.

We invite you to drive along the Upper Cumberland Quilt Trail and enjoy the beautiful countryside of the counties in the Upper Cumberland Region. The Trail is a very scenic driving tour which can be followed via the maps included on this website.By following the maps you will see not only the beautiful and historic barns owned by local farm families but gorgeous quilt squares displayed on businesses and homes in the various communities. Quilt squares range from 2×2 to 8×8 wood squares. The blocks are replicas of treasured family heirlooms. In painting their favorite patterns on barns, businesses and homes, we are honoring local quilters who are well known for their skills of using every piece of scrap fabric to create a beautiful work of art that is also a useful item in the home.

For your convenience, there are signs to guide you from site to site Along the way you will also have the opportunity to visit local fabric shops, country stores, antique shops, galleries, businesses, and historical places. Stop and have dinner at the many quaint eateries and enjoy some local flavor here.

There are many established and famous Quilt Trails throughout the country with a large selection of painted barns. Our Quilt Trail is in its beginning stages but we are quickly growing as more of the 16 counties in the Upper Cumberland region are joining us.

Thank You

Our gratitude goes to the farm, business and property owners for giving us permission to hang the paintings on their properties. We are especially grateful to our Quilters and their families for allowing us to use their treasured quilts and patterns.

We especially want to thank all the builders, students, and artists in each of the participating counties of the Upper Cumberland area who spent many hours designing and painting the squares.
